Bread & Butter Loco 2 Lab Test: More Spin, Same Punch as the Original
Independent lab data on the Bread & Butter Loco 2 is in. Both shapes keep the original Loco's power and pop, while the new Space Dust grit adds measurable spin and holds its texture far longer.
Pickleball Effect has published its lab data on the Bread & Butter Loco 2, the first Loco since Selkirk Sport acquired the brand in May. The numbers tell a clear story: the sequel keeps the original's pace and adds spin, with a far more durable surface.
What has changed
The Loco 2 is an evolution rather than a redesign. It keeps a 16mm dual-density foam core (EPP and EVA) under a raw T700 carbon face. The headline change is Bread & Butter's Space Dust grit, a textured surface built to hold its bite over time. It comes in two shapes, Elongated and Hybrid, both dual-certified by USA Pickleball and UPA-A, and both retail at $220 in the US.
The lab numbers
Pickleball Effect measured both shapes and gave each an overall score of 4.9 out of 5.
Loco 2 Elongated
- Size: 16.5" x 7.375", 5.5" handle
- Static weight: 7.94 oz
- Swing weight: 119 / twist weight: 6.22
- Serve speed: 57 mph / punch-volley pop: 37 mph
- Spin: 2,154 RPM (original Loco Elongated: 2,010 RPM)
Loco 2 Hybrid
- Size: 16.2" x 7.6", 5.3" handle
- Static weight: 7.86 oz
- Swing weight: 109 / twist weight: 6.57
- Serve speed: 56.7 mph / punch-volley pop: 36.9 mph
- Spin: 2,135 RPM (original Loco Hybrid: 2,032 RPM)
In the lab's abrasion test, the Space Dust surface kept about 94% of its texture, against roughly 80% for a typical raw carbon face. Power and pop were close to identical to the first Loco in both shapes. The Kitchen Pickle's own review measured a similar profile for the Elongated, with a swing weight of 118 and a stiff, power-leaning feel.
One caution: spin figures vary between testers because each uses its own method, so compare paddles within a single lab's data rather than across sites. These player-hit spin numbers are also separate from the surface test USA Pickleball uses for certification.
The Selkirk connection
Selkirk announced its acquisition of Bread & Butter on 12 May 2026. Bread & Butter keeps its own branding, leadership and product direction, while Selkirk brings supply chain, distribution and global reach. The Loco 2 is the first major release under that arrangement.
The Paddle Dept. take
If you liked the original Loco, the Loco 2 feels familiar: the same firm, lively response, with more grip on the ball and a face that should stay rough for longer. The Elongated suits baseline players who want reach and plough-through on drives; the Hybrid is noticeably quicker in hand-battles at the kitchen, thanks to its lower swing weight. Players who value soft touch above all may still prefer a more control-oriented build.
